Old Hill’s senior portfolio management team has significant experience in asset-backed lending in excess of 20 years through multiple credit cycles
John Howe founded Old Hill in 1996 and has over 25 years of experience investing and managing credit and asset based lending transactions. John is Old Hill′s Chief Executive Officer and responsible for overall portfolio construction. John is the chairman of the Investment Committee. Prior to Old Hill, John was a Managing Director at Nomura Securities in New York from 1990 to 1995, where he oversaw the $40 billion Government Securities Business Unit. Before joining Nomura, John was a Senior Vice President at Kidder Peabody, where he managed and traded fixed-income securities for seven years.
John earned his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and graduate degree from Columbia University, with a specialization in international business.
John was a captain in the United States Army, serving 10 years in active and reserve units.
Jeff Haas joined Old Hill in 2011. Jeff has over 20 years of diverse financial experience focused on portfolio management, transaction structuring and Chief Operating Officer duties. At Old Hill, Jeff is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Firm as well as sourcing and structuring transactions. Jeff is a member of the Firm′s Investment Committee.
Prior to joining Old Hill, Jeff was the Chief Operating Officer and Co-Portfolio Manager of Juniperhill Asset Management and a Portfolio Manager for Centrecourt Asset Management, both small cap-focused lending investment advisory firms. Earlier, Jeff served as a Portfolio Manager and Trader at CIBC World Markets, where he co-managed proprietary trading for less liquid investments and structured lending. He began his career as a certified public accountant.
Jeff earned an MBA in finance and international business from NYU′s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, after receiving an undergraduate accounting degree from Adelphi University.
Peter Faigl joined Old Hill in 2009. Peter has over 20 years of experience analyzing credit based transactions and portfolio management for asset-backed lending investments. Peter is responsible for sourcing transactions, analysis, asset-level modeling, structuring and portfolio management for the Firm′s asset-backed investments and is a member of the Firm′s Investment Committee. Prior to Old Hill, Peter was with NewStar Financial, helping the company develop both its structured finance securities and asset-backed investment businesses. Earlier, Peter was responsible for structuring and execution of asset-backed principal transactions at UBS. Peter started his career as an analyst at Bank of America Securities.
Peter is a CFA charter holder and a graduate of James Madison University with majors in quantitative finance and economics.
Richard Martorella, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. Rich Martorella joined the Investment Manager in November, 2018. He is responsible for overall Finance, Fund Accounting and Compliance and is a member of the Investment Committee. Rich has over 25 years of diverse financial experience including financial structuring, audit and related chief financial officer duties in the financial services and consumer products industries. Prior to joining Old Hill, Rich was Chief Financial Officer of PL Developments. Prior to PL Developments, Rich was the Director of Corporate Development at UST Inc. and money market trader at Citibank. Rich began his career as a banking professional originating short term loan products and money market trading.
Rich holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and International Management from Georgetown University and a Masters in Management Studies from Cambridge University.
Sam Adams joined the Investment Manager in November 2018. He is responsible for sourcing, vetting, structuring, closing, and managing deals in the portfolio. Sam manages a variety of transactions but has particular expertise in trade finance, entertainment and shipping. Sam has more than 30 years experience in loan transactions, including 12 with asset-based lending funds. Prior to joining OHP Sam was an investment banker for Corporate Finance Associates, focusing on sourcing capital for lower-middle-market companies. Earlier, Sam founded an entertainment-related ABL fund called Cedar Lane and worked at a trade and transportation finance fund called Octave. He began his career by practicing corporate law for 10 years, first at Shearman & Sterling and then at other New York law firms. Sam holds a B.A. in History from Kenyon College and a J.D. from Washington & Lee University School of Law.
